Pre winter 2011

Currently gearing up for another great winter. Some people have already got their passes and product is starting to hit the shelves. Both Whistler and the house have had big upgrades done for the Olympics and now that is over everyone is excited to get back to ripping some good lines on the mountain and enjoying all that a mountain town has to offer. Most of all can't wait to get that first pow turn of the season.

Summer 2010

After all the upgrades made to the resort and house for the Olympics it is shaping up to be quite a season. We are really excited with the on mountain improvements including the peak to peak gondola which really opens up the options and makes access from the 24-7snow house to everywhere on the mountain an easy option. Plus a day at Blackcomb can be finished with the ride back over the peak to peak and then ride home to the house so making the house even more convenient. Whats great is the Peak to Peak is included in the regular lift price.

Ride to Conquer Cancer

Haven't posted for a minute but had to get back to the computer to put up a link for this. One of the best things I've heard about in a while and I would recommend anyone in the Vancouver to Settle area to consider it. Actually anyone should consider it. Amazingly they raised 9.2million this last ride. Anyway here is the link http://www.conquercancer.ca/index.html?cvridirect=true

less than 30 days to the olympics!

Wow less than 30 days to go to the Olympics now. Seems crazy how fast time has flown by here in Whistler. Accommodation is tight as always and it is interesting to see how they are going to fit all the support staff into town. There is talk of Ferries holding staff in the ocean in Squamish and the army having to sleep in the woods, plus there still seems to be tons of work left to get done so the whole logistics of what is going on here are pretty remarkable to say the least. I'm really excited to see Danny Davis's progression of the snowboard sport and unfortunately he will most likely never stay with 24-7snow as he is too busy toouring the world blowing minds. Last weekend at the Mammoth Grand Prix he finished his run with a switch alley oop double backside rodeo??? Who does that? Halfpipe can be predictable to watch at times so it is a joy to see so much creativity introduced at such a high level. Go to Transworld Snowboarding to see the clip.

Anyway back to the point, the Olympics are around the corner and everyone should be getting amped up for the show about to unfold. Horray for winter sports............

Olypmics are coming!

Can’t believe it is just over half a year to the olympics come to town. We have added a counter to the side of the page to remind us how short a time it is to the olympics come to town. Personally with it being my love snowboard halfpipe is the event I’m most excited about but they are all amazing. Biathalon I think is hugely interesting, how healthy they have to be cross country ski at that speed and then slow down their heart rate when they have to hit a target.

We still have some place left but not sure for how long so get in contact quickly if you are interested in staying in Whistler next winter.

Late spring, early summer 09

Well another winter has come to an end, many happy memories have been etched in to history and many good friendships have been made and are on hiatus as the non locals distribute back to their respective home towns.

Whistler weather is pretty unpredictable, I guess mountain weather in general is pretty unpredictable but no matter what the doubters think and bad weather signs may show I have yet to see a bad season here. For sure there can be dry and warm spells but overall every season has been epic and I don’t think many can disagree with that.

The house is already half full for the Olympic season and it is going to be a really exciting time for the house, the mountain, Whistler and BC in general with the world’s attention coming to it next Feburary. Defintely best of luck to all the atheltes who are training out there right now for next Feb. To everyone else enjoy the summer, get out the bikes, swim outside as much as possible and try not to miss the snow too much.

Spring Season 08/09

After a slow start with December being very cold we got a good spell over Christmas and then an extended sunny period through Janurary and early with great park riding conditions we finally got the goods late in the season. Yes it took longer than normal to hit this year but mid to late season was insane. There was one week in March with no one around and people were getting fatigue from riding so much powder and the mountain was just ridiculous, tree runs with a metre of powder on every bump, huge pillows you could submerge yourself in and come out of at the end of a section coughing up snow. So, so good. All this snow also meant that March had the most insane park on Whistler I have ever seen, feature after feature after feature, the park became an aerobic experience and everyone learnt a ton of tricks and had a great time.

It really is on

Winter is completely and utterly officially here, it feels like it hasn’t stopped snowing for three weeks, the stats haven’t come out yet but I can’t think of any day in that period that we didn’t at least get a dusting and we have had a bunch of 30 cm days and loads of 15cm days. This is my favourite when it tops itself up by 10 or 20 cm a day, it is not enough to get to much hype but it never really gets tracked during the day and then it gets loaded again at night. I can’t lie to you it is ridiculously fun and this season has reminded me why I love snowboarding so much.

The parks are also the best they have ever been and it is still very early days park wise so I am sure we will see some big improvements as well. Already the park on Blackcomb seems completely built compared with previous seasons. The intermediate park has stepup jumps this year which make it safer and the landings stay smoother longer. The higher level park already has a two four jump lines. Either the full size right line, a 30 foot step up to 30 foot step down, rolling into a nice long raised up box into a 40 ft kicker into a 45ft kicker, finishing up with a choice of down rails. The left line is gnarly, the last two jumps are 50 ft then 55 ft and you get to start with the shack jump which is so fun. I’ll leave you all with a link to Scott Stevens’ part from Think Thank’s “Thanks Brain” which is the most original shred section I have seen all year, well Gigi Ruff’s parts are always epic but still. Anyway thanks to crapneto for this, I saw the clip on their site and got all excited.

Any way here is the link

Winter 07/08 coming up fast

We have had a busy summer. I’ve been down in New Zealand riding the snow down here and seeing new places. After a great summer, having met loads of amazing people I’m heading back to Whistler in the next month and am really looking forward to it. The mountains down here are a special experience, beautiful views, really friendly people, sunny days, has been an unforgettable experience. Still I can’t wait to get back to Whistler to catch up with friends, ride some decent length runs, hit the trees, ride the huge parks, get some bottomless pow turns, basicaly i’m hyped. The last two years have been so epic and everyone has been asking whether global warming or possible onsetting ice age is having influence on the weather. Either way while every where else is seeing droughts and mild climates Whistler has been getting blessed and I can’t wait to get back.
We still have a few beds left, for singles or couples and still have all the great features everyone asked for, trampoline, hot tub, free high speed internet, cable tele, the list goes on. If you want to have a good winter season get it sorted out soon so you won’t be dissapointed and personaly I highly recommend Whistler.

Vail Sessions takes snowboarding to computer game standards

Last weekend in Vail the yearly slopestyle and rail comped went off. Along with the Air & Style it is one of the few comps that push snowboarding and pros seem to enjoy (a nice change from the old style comps where competitor stoke and satisfaction is not important and pros seem to just go through the motions.

At Vail David Benedek from Germany throw down a groundbreaking run of switch backside 9, to backside 9, to switch frontside 9, to frontside Double-Cork 1260 and he didn’t even win. This is to say nothing about the groundbreaking rail setup at the end of the course which seemed to be a mixture of a concrete skatepark and the best ever snowpark. Here’s the links to the video clips, the slopestyle, the rail jam. so so rad

Christmas went off in the 24-7snow house

We had an amazing christmas this year. I have to admit I’m very lazy when it comes to events like these (to say the least), but the girls in the house were very pro-active in making sure that we had a great day. A hell of a lot of organization went into the meal and I was well impressed. With 12 people eating pulling together any meal is a nightmare but they excelled themselves with a lovely dinner. We even also had a mystery santa in the house who took it upon themselves to buy everyone else in the house a present out of the kindness of their heart, so that really set the day off.

Injuries in the middle of best snow conditions? Gutted

So this week I broke my ankle then two days later Aidy broke his collar bone, definitly a bit of an awakening. Going from riding freshies everyday to being stuck in the house and just getting to the shops being a huge mission is completely shocking. However I’ve always known this is part of snowboarding if I push myself so got to just make the most of this time off, going to try and get some more content up on this site to make the most of my couch time. Anyway six weeks off for me and Aidy so condolences out to us…. haha.

Happy Christmas all too.

yeah we are getting blessed right now. forty centimetres today and 25 predicted tomo, with a further 30 and 40 for wednesday and thursday. While sadly enough europe has no snow we luckily already have a really good base and any new snow is an added bonus. The pillow lines are starting to bulge and all the landings are filled up so should be a great week.
